Privacy Policy

This is a plain-language draft written to accurately describe what MangaRecs actually does today. It hasn't been reviewed by a lawyer. Have it checked before relying on it for App Store / Play Store submission or any formal compliance need.

What we collect

If you just browse the catalog without signing in, we don't collect anything about you. Titles you save are kept only in your browser's local storage on your own device.

If you create an account (email/password, or "Continue with Google"), we collect and store, via our database provider Supabase:

Your email address, used to sign you in. If you sign up with a password, Supabase handles and stores it securely — we never see or store your raw password.
If you use "Continue with Google," the basic profile info Google shares for sign-in (your email, and name/photo if provided).
Your reading library: series titles you save, chapter progress, and status (reading / completed / bookmarked), so it can sync between this website and the MangaRecs app.

How we use it

To sign you in and keep your library in sync between the website and the app.
To remember your light/dark theme preference (stored locally in your browser, not on our servers).
If you sign up for launch updates, to send you a one-time email when the app is available — nothing else.

We don't run ads, and we don't sell or rent your data to anyone.

Who we share it with

Supabase — hosts our database and handles authentication. This is where your account and library data actually lives.
Google — only involved if you choose "Continue with Google," per Google's own sign-in flow.
AniList — we query AniList's public API for public catalog info (titles, covers, synopses). These lookups are anonymous and never include any of your personal or account information.

Cookies & local storage

We use your browser's local storage for two things: remembering your theme choice, and — if you're not signed in — keeping a local list of titles you've saved so it survives a page reload. We don't use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.

Your choices

You can remove saved titles at any time, sign out whenever you like, and request deletion of your account and all associated data by emailing us (below) — we'll action it promptly.

Children

MangaRecs isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under that age.

Changes

If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
